We’re slowly recovering from London Fashion Week and although we have a lot of highlights (don’t get us started on the dreamy Molly Goddard and Bora Aksu shows), Ashish particularly stood out to us. Usually, during September Fashion Week we see a lot of colour, with designers showing their summer collections and after the multi-coloured sequin explosion of Ashish’s AW17 show, we weren’t sure how he could top it. But upon arrival to the show space, we knew we were gonna be in for a treat with mirrored disco balls suspended about a foot above the floor and a harp, once the atmosphere was set the models began to stride down the catwalk barefoot in shimmering lace dresses and sheer glitter suits. Distinctly moving away from his brightly coloured AW17 collection, Ashish used a blood red, jet black a virginal white colour palette for his SS18 show – however, those slogans remained with ‘Witch’, ‘Good Mourning’ and ‘Heart is a heavy burden’ emblazoned across the collection.

Talking to Ashish after the show he explained the collection came from ‘a bit of a dark moment‘ with Martin Luther King’s quote ‘Only in the darkness can you see the stars.’ providing inspiration for the collection. As Ashish puts it himself ‘In darkness, you can see light and hope, and I think we’re living in quite dark times, so it was a bit of a statement about that‘, and of course every inch of the show sparkled.

As well as putting on a spellbinding show, Ashish was also celebrating year long partnership with Lavazza this season using his signature sequins to design a coffee cup and tote bag. Because what else would he use?!
