London based duo Vinti Tan and Paul Andrews make up Vinti Andrews. Influenced by British culture and the global music scene, they produce innovative and original collections. With a crafty approach to design you can expect re-constructed garments, recycled high end clothing, detailed appliqué, strong graphics and simple but exciting clothing.
Who inspired you to get into fashion and set your own label?
I really got into fashion when I started going to gigs and raves like Gatecrasher, I wanted to wear an expressive outfit, that was original and that no one had, so I started making my own clothes.
Talk us through your design process.
Our starting point is looking into a colour inspiration first, for which London is one of the best places in the world. It could be a painting from the National Portrait Gallery, a rough street art in Shoreditch, movies, skaters on the south back, etc… Options are endless.
Describe your typical day.
First I stop at the Boundary to get my early morning coffee fix, then on to our store on Redchurch street. After lunch we head to the studio and work till late on sampling, draping and patterns, maybe grab a drink or meet friends for Vietnamese food in Kingsland road.
What have been your career highlights so far and what do you have planned for the future?
Designing special interior projects for Nike’s flagship stores in Hong Kong and Shanghai was great, but properly the career highlight is seeing people wearing our designs, and creating their own style with it.
