Humble Grape has opened up its third wine bar and shop in Islington and we’re pretty happy to have it nearby as it’s the perfect neighbourhood wine bar: relaxed and with great food and drinks.

You can browse the shelves for bottles to take away or sit down and choose from a constantly rotating selection of wines by the glass. We left ourselves in the very capable hands of our waiter who suggested a wine flight to accompany our dishes, introducing us to some unusual Italian grape varieties along the way.

On the food front, it’s simple, high quality ingredients and cooking all the way. Some of our favourites of the night were from the bar snacks menu, the incredible cheese bon bons which oozed out hot melted cheese and the chorizo croquettas served with green aioli.

We also tucked into a bowl of mussels from the small plates section, soaking up the juices with fresh homemade bread. We then shared two bigger plates, a fillet of hake served with samphire, chilli and white Dorset crab, and a pork chop drenched in anchovy butter and served with crispy skin-on chips.

Whether you pop in for a glass of wine or a full on meal, The Humble Grape is a great new spot for Islington.
