The Four Seasons Trinity Square opened earlier this year with its headline star of the show restaurant, La Dame De Pic, from the multi Michelin-starred chef Anne Sophie Pic. Well now they’ve launched their second restaurant, Mei Ume, which combines the best of Chinese and Japanese cuisine into one all-singing all-dancing menu. Being in such a beautiful old building (previously the headquarters of The London Port Authority), the restaurant itself is a pretty stunning space, with high ceilings, huge columns, traditional Chinese and Japanese artworks on the walls and some nice art deco light fixtures.

On the menu you can choose a mix of Chinese or Japanese or just stick to one; there’s plenty to choose from. We went for a mix and couldn’t resist the whole signature roast Peking duck – not cheap at £85 but if there’s a few of you sharing it’s worth it to get a taste of the soft meat and light crispy skin. We weren’t so keen on the second serving, which was the remainder of the duck in a salad, but the first serving with pancakes and plum sauce was worth it alone.

We also tried the steamed dim sum basket which was very good indeed, plus some excellent sushi and a yellowtail carpaccio with truffle which was our favourite of the smaller dishes. Thanks to the very helpful sommelier we also sampled some top sakes, ending up on a sweet style for dessert, a chocolate fondant with green tea ice cream.

In the evening, your bill could rack up at Mei Ume, depending on what your order of course, but at lunch they have a great £29 lunch menu which grabs you a couple of starters, a main, rice and tea – a good way to check it out if you’re on a budget.
