We’re always pleasantly surprised when hitting St Katherine Docks. That holiday feeling inevitably creeps up on you, making you smile at your own stupidity, but you say it anyway…’kind of feels like you’re on holiday around here doesn’t it?’. Yep, the picturesque Docks is a bit of a destination and with the introduction of Dokke, it has yet another great reason to fly on over and indulge in an epically creative menu in the tranquil setting of the marina.

Neil Wager’s first restaurant at St Katharine Docks is influenced by his travels around the world, drawing upon a global palate of influences and flavours to show off an ever-changing menu at Dokke. Inside it’s cool and contemporary with walnut floors, flos designer lighting, original mid-century furniture, concrete table tops and a matching central island… or in other words, pretty damn sick. With a choice of seating you are spoilt, is it indoor you want, outdoor with views of the marina or right up close and personal at the chef’s table?

The local markets of Borough, Billingsgate and Smithfield heavily influence the menu with plenty of healthy and exotic options and that all important nod to the cooking styles of far East and Africa. As ever, sharing plates are what’s on offer and we were lucky enough to enjoy a selection of dishes from breakfast through to dinner. The crispy potato with kimchi and black pudding, along with every other dish is well presented, and the clever combination of  crunchy, sweet, spicy makes it de-lish. The Cloud Egg with crispy kale, avocado and chorizo is also worth a shout from the brunch staples and sets you up nicely.

There is also a menu of snacks to get involved with, with the red hot chilli burger and not-so-hot burger being the talking point –  not just because of the flavours and chilli but the wow factor being the charcoal infused bun, making it, yep…BLACK. The larger sharing plates again make use of charcoal, which helps remove toxins from the body and the crab charcoal risotto just looks amazing, is super fresh, and damn tasty. The green papaya curry was another stand out dish bursting with flavour, top marks.

If you like good clean food with a sharp injection of flavours that will twist your palate we suggest you dock at Dokke.
