loti eats: lupins

With so many restaurant openings in London, we have to admit we were a little bit sceptical about Lupins and their strapline of “seasonal British produce with a splash of sunshine” because let’s face it, sunshine in England cannot be guaranteed! However after eating dinner there we’re pleased to say it’s sky rocketed straight into our list of favourite places to eat in London. Located in Flat Iron Square, we visited on a sunny evening and were pleasantly surprised by the village vibes that we found – it looks like Flat Iron Square is finally getting it’s place in the sun (light!)

The small restaurant, is simply decorated but very on trend with pastel hues, plants, wooden furniture, kitchen counter on ground level and lots of light in the upper informal intimate dining space. The menu is made for sharing but dishes are served one at a time. We kicked off with the white bean crositini with anchovy and lemon salsa and the courgette, chilli and ricotta croquettes with spiced honey. Both dishes setting the tone nicely for the rest of the meal.

Other highlights included the flaky roast hake with a creamy ndjua risotto and the rich Cornish crab thermidor served with crunchy homemade garlic bread. Whilst cornmeal crispy spring onions with chipotle mayo, which we ordered on a whim were incredibly addictive, much like the chocolate mouse with seasame and salted caramel. The bad news is the menu is seasonal and changes daily which means you might miss out on these dishes, the good news is you can keep on visiting and never get bored.

We dined on Tuesday evening and we’re going back Friday evening – Think of that what you will….
