loti eats: bentley’s oyster bar & grill

Having been open since 1916, Bentley’s Oyster Bar & Grill is one of London’s most classic restaurants. As you’d expect, it’s cosy and romantic inside with leather booths, marble topped bars and even an outside terrace for the warmer weather. For the past ten years, Richard Corrigan has been in charge of Bentley’s. A man who knows his seafood, he hasn’t messed with the classic formula too much and there’s even a menu section of all-time Bentley’s classics as well as a few more modern dishes such as ceviche.

We’d recommend getting at least one of the classics and you can’t go far wrong with the fish pie, which features big chunks of haddock, salmon and prawns in a creamy sauce and topped with mash. We also loved the lobster spaghetti; fresh thin strands of pasta with fresh lobster tail and a rich bisque-like sauce. On the drinks list there’s a strong list of champagnes – you could even pop in for a glass of fizz and a few oysters – wines and classic cocktails. Bentley’s isn’t a place for over the top new-fangled creations, however, it’s all about quality spirits and keeping it simple which we like.

Any restaurant that’s been in London for over 100 years is doing something right and we loved the classic experience of Bentley’s – a great date or celebration spot.
