loti eats: bon vivant

Well it’s a bit French in here isn’t it? Oui oui, Bon Vivant is here to seduce us with their subtly sexy, French style, featuring plenty of rose pink, gold and dark velvets, exposed brickwork and deep green plantage. All the staff wear striped tops, a clear indication of how French it is, and there are some rather provocative artworks on the walls. We love it.

We began with moules a la creme, that’s mussels, white wine, shallots, garlic and fine herbs, and happily mopped up all that sauce with our garlic bread. For mains, we went for the ‘Magret de Canard’ – duck breast, parsnip, apples, shallots, hazelnuts, honey and thyme jus. The cod with spinach, carrots, clams, bourbon velouté and herbs was also spot on, with the cod falling away in big tasty chunks.

For dessert, it was the deconstructed snickers bar that grabbed us and saw each element pulled apart and laid out in some sort of arty confectionary road kill. As you’d expect the wine list is very French though they do show off some Spanish and Italian bottles too. The cocktails have also been given a French twist; try their signature Dirty Pink – gin, lemon syrup, Chambord raspberry liquor and egg white.

All in all, it’s a bit oh la la and so French. Ça te dit?
