loti eats: rail house cafe

The Victoria Nova openings just keep on coming…we’ve had Aster and Hai Cenato and now the Rail House Cafe, sister to Riding House Cafe and Village East, has puffed into life. The split level place is enormous; a gorgeous horseshoe bar and private dining area up top and the main restaurant with a central bar and open kitchen on the ground floor. Thanks to the insta-worthy interiors the space doesn’t feel overwhelming though. The mismatched-chic vibe, with lots of washed wood, tiles, velvet, leather and rattan makes it feel lived-in and luxurious at the same time.

The place was buzzing on our visit with a full bar as well as full restaurant and even people on the outside sofas, and whilst the service wasn’t quite running like clockwork there was certainly no faults with the food. Whether you opt for sharesies or the standard three courses, be sure to try something from the ‘Raw’ section… the seabass ceviche with cucumber, avocado and tapioca crisps was GOOD.

The slow cooked lamb shoulder with aubergine miso and black curry was super rich and savoury and our fave from the mains, and although the desserts are more traditional than the rest of the menu, defo save room for one. The pain perdu with caramelised pears was one of the lightest ones we’ve ever had and they don’t hold back on the size of the slice either.

Much like the food, the cocktail list draws inspiration from all over the world, which makes Rail House Cafe a perfect pit-stop for drinks too; it’s the brunch menu, however, with THAT Burgerdict, that has us planning a return journey.
