LOTI EATS: CARAVAN BANKSIDE

caravan-loti-1

Following successful sites in Exmouth Market and King’s Cross, Caravan has expanded south of the river for the first time with a shiny new spot Bankside. Housed in an old metal box factory, it has that industrial edge you expect from Caravan but still feels relaxed and welcoming.

The menu has a familiar feel to it, with the blue cheese and peanut wontons, jalapeno cornbread, and croquettes all present and correct, but there are plenty of new dishes too, so you don’t feel like you’re getting a repeat of the other locations. The real strength of Caravan lies in the small plates, which are a mash-up of Asian, European and Middle Eastern flavours, and they are legit ALL great. So unless you plan on ordering the entire menu, which may not be a bad shout, we’d definitely recommend the roasted squash with miso and blue cheese, the pork and Chinese chive potstickers, and the spiced cauliflower with harissa and pomegranate yoghurt. If you can save room for dessert you’re better people than us, although we saw some come out and they looked mega.

With pizzas also on the menu plus their excellent brekkie and brunch offering, Caravan Bankside is the kind of place you’ll just keep going back to.
