a restaurant and live music venue located in the old Hackney Central train station, but it’s not just another new, live music skanky pub, oh no this place is the dogs bollocks. Downstairs in the restaurant the decor is pretty swish with cool lighting, wooden tables and plenty of space. The food comes from Dave Ahern who was behind Burger Breakout and it’s fair to say he knows his sh*t and likes cooking with calories. We sampled a selection of the dishes from the menu, some of which are nordic inspired including the bacon made from salmon – not as freaky as it sounds – and apple and horseradish cured mackerel.

Our highlights were the Death by Bacon; fries cooked in bacon fat, sprinkled in bacon salt and served with bacon ketchup. If these are gonna kill you then at least you die whilst experiencing a bit of heaven. The burger is a beast – no surprises there then. A 42 day aged patty, 12 hour braised oxtail, horseradish cheddar, smoked bone marrow mayo and hot oxtail shot. BOOM.

The Hackney fave has also re-vamped it’s weekend brunch menu, taking the best from both breakfast and lunch. If it’s eggs you’re after, head for the Nordic Cure, a tempting mix of egg, chorizo, bacon, avocado, grilled peppers, homemade chilli beans and halloumi on waffles: basically EVERYTHING we like on one plate. For veggies, there is an exact replica, the Veg Cure, (that is minus the chorizo and bacon, obvs). For those that like to share, there’s a platter of Nordic treats, including crispy squid, Norwegian sausage, homemade meatballs, salted beef, onion rings, cornichons and toasted sour dough, plus for those that don’t like sharing, a couple of burgers and a baked cauliflower salad.
