Just below Trafalgar Square, tucked down a cobbled lane you’ll find Walkers Of Whitehall. Originally built as a bank in 1694, this place has a long ol’ history and has recently undergone a facelift. Nowadays it’s much more than a pub with a separate dining room and basement cocktail bar in the former bank vaults.
We kicked things off with the charred cauliflower with tahini, golden raisins and pine nuts and the melt in the middle n’duja croquettes with aioli. For mains we couldn’t resist the braised short rib with mash, bone marrow and gremolata and the tender sirloin steak which came straight off the robata grill – both dishes were cooked to perfection and a good hearty size.
[URIS id=74938]After mains we were stuffed, but with a dark chocolate pot with orange biscuits and fluffy homemade meringue with greengage and vanilla cream on the dessert menu, how could we say no?! And drinks wise, there’s an big list of cocktails and craft beers from the pub upstairs – be sure to check out the smoking (literally) maple old fashioned.
Walkers Of Whitehall have put a posh spin on the usual pub grub, but without a pretentious atmosphere you don’t feel out of place turning up in your Stan Smiths – that’s our kinda pub.
