CHECKING IN: BELMOND LA RESIDENCIA

belmond-loti

Mallorca has been having its day in the sun, ever since The Night Manager hit our TVs and people realised just how beautiful the island is. Possibly the prettiest village of them all is Deia, located on the mountainous west coast – it really is picture perfect. Even though it’s definitely not new on the tourist map, much of the west coast has escaped huge hotel development, which means the hotels you encounter are full of charm and as pretty as their surroundings.

Belmond’s La Residencia is one such hotel. Located in the centre of Deia in two stone 16th century manor houses, the five star luxury property fits in just perfectly. The hotel has quite the reputation and having stayed it’s easy to see why. There’s the views from the rooms, the attentive service, the three swimming pools, the extensive breakfast spread, the push for service buttons around the pool and the rooms themselves, which have as much character as the building. Think four poster beds, plush bathrooms with walk-in wardrobes, bath tubs, showers, a huge variety of toiletries and private balconies with sun loungers.

Then there’s the manicured lawn with sofas, guest library, Cafe Miro, the less formal restaurant with outdoor balcony, and what might be the most romantic restaurant setting we’ve ever come across – El Olivo located in a candlelit courtyard. There’s basically no reason to leave but if you do want to, you’re right in the heart of the town, which is ideal for pottering. There’s a complimentary shuttle to Calle Deia if you fancy jumping in the sea (or hitting up the restaurant from The Night Manager), which means you can leave the crazy winding roads to the experts.

If you’re planning a short-haul holiday where R&R is on the agenda and you fancy a little more culture than a big resort, be sure to check out La Residencia, you won’t regret it.
