AMERICAN FAST FOOD FAVE CHICK-FIL-A IS FLYING INTO THE UK

The chicken giant is plotting a return to our shores in 2025

We’ve had a fair few fast food brands make their way across the pond and plant their flag in the UK – Shake Shack and Five Guys are beloved by Brits for their burgers and Popeye’s had no problem drawing in the crowds when it opened its first UK spot in Stratford in late 2021. Now Chick-Fil-A, the third largest quick service restaurant in the US with over 2800 stores, is flying over to take a share of the action.

The chain is planning to launch its first UK site in early 2025, then expand to five within the first two years, and invest $100 million here over the next decade. It won’t be the first time Chick-Fil-A has come to town – it popped up in Finchley, slinging its famous chicken sandwich, waffle fries and thick shakes for just one day in 2016, and it also opened a location inside Reading’s Oracle shopping centre in 2019 but it didn’t last long, having faced backlash for the company’s reported historic donations to anti-LGBT organisations. Since the boycotts, which also happened in the US, the biz changed up its charitable focus in 2020, donating to initiatives that work towards supporting youth education, tackling homelessness and fighting hunger.

Will this expansion attempt be the one that sticks for Chick-Fil-A? Only time will tell.
