Street Tavern is the epitome of a modern pub, taking the staple characteristics and housing them inside a place that is slick and new, yet holds the charming aesthetics of the days of old. Being smack bang in Whitechapel, Leman Street Tavern gives City dwellers a new place to dine, work and play.

The food menu is all about British classics and it was the food of the sea that got us excited first, roast scallops, confit pork belly, charred cauliflower with sherry vinegar, damn fine. On the mains their signatures include a slow roasted quarter shoulder of lamb which just falls off the bone, this comes with spinach, onions, anchovies in a light jus. Ever a classic, the beer battered cod, triple cooked chips, mushy peas with tartare sauce didn’t disappoint, lightly battered and the chips are solid gold and a hearty portion.

Desserts are interesting all right, with chocolate and marmalade trifle and blood orange and pomegranate posset, shortbread…but it was an old school that caught are eye, spotted dick with banana custard, hello baby! Leman Street Tavern looks the part alright, art donning the walls everywhere, interesting little accessories, exposed brick work, it’s very dapper. You’ll be tempted to shuffle your shoes clean on the mat before walking in…it’s a modern day British pub, it deserves respect. Enjoy your bevy’s.
