no secret us Londoners like our fried chicken, why else would there be a shop on every bloody corner? But times have changed. No longer do we just want to get greasy fingered at 3am (OK, OK we still want that every now and then) but we also want our fowl fried and gourmet. Billy Stock, a chef previously at St John and Salt Yard, has jumped on the bandwagon, bringing his chicks to Soho to open a restaurant named…wait for it…Billy and the Chicks.

Using entirely British produce from the likes of Bread Ahead, Neal’s Yard Dairy, Walter Rose & Son and Spice Mountain, the simple menu really is all about the British birds, free range Cotswold Whites to be exact. And the chickens come many ways. We got cluckin’ excited over spicy wings, crispy fried chicken pieces, a chicken burger and the sweet, sticky pork riblettes. Of course to balance out all the meat, there’s a good selection of sides to choose from too and we’d  recommend the skin-on fries, gravy and slaw. When it comes to dessert (if you can manage it!), you really can’t go wrong with a deep fried apple pie and ice cream. In for a penny, in for a pound…

Chicken-Wings

With a great selection of bevys on offer and some damn good tunes on the playlist, Billy and the Chicks is worth more than a flying visit…
