travelled through Sri Lanka and lived on hoppers for breakfast we were pretty excited when we heard Hoppers was opening in London. Located on Frith Street it’s a pretty small place and with no rezzies you might need to queue…We ate our way through the WHOLE menu. Standout dishes included the freshly baked roti filled with duck, the string hoppers which resemble discs of noodles with kiri hodi and Pol Sambol. Pol Sambol, made from coconut and chill is served with most things in Sri Lanka and it’s addictive. Egg hoppers were light and we had ours with black pork kari, tender pork in a sticky marinade and the guinea fowl kari which came with more of a thick, curry sauce.

Then there’s THAT chicken, which most of you might have spotted on Instagram: a full chicken super tender, almost butter-like served with fresh roti and various condiments. Oh and the special crab curry shouldn’t be missed either, just make sure you ask what the special of the day is… Drink the pineapple and black pepper punch which comes with a scoop of sorbet in it and you won’t be disappointed. In fact the only grumbles we had were that the Pol Sambol didn’t have enough chilli in it, we wanted more of a kick to it and we’re hoping that they will open for breakfast soon too…
