On Feb 23rd, the Sunne sets in the East at Power Lunches E8, as Cheathas celebrate the release of their SUNNE EP on Wichita recordings. The titular track sees the London based quartet hone their D.I.Y production techniques…guitars run through cheap recorders, recorded in bedrooms, using cassette tapes, resulting in something gloriously heartwarming in its practiced simplicity.
A feedback hiss and hum shortly gives way to an instantly nagging, uplifting riff that carries the tune. Drums and bass, reminiscent of Mr Hook from New Order in its muscularity and melody, give the marching orders “To the beach!” as this really is, a summery, positive, windows open and music blaring kind of tune.
It could easily be an anthemic end of set number, which may be the case once festival line-ups are revealed. Cheating is a dirty secret for most, but when Sunne fades down like the end of an LP or mixtape, it won’t leave you feeling cheated, but wanting much, much more from these friendly Cheathahs.
