Tommyfield
has long been one of Kennington’s best gastro pubs, with a great menu of homemade pies, fish and chips and steaks. Now they’ve added six boutique hotel bedrooms on the upper floors, a great shout for a budget stay in London, with rates starting at £99.

BATH

The rooms are not a massive size but nicely designed and feel really cosy, with designer light fixtures, king size beds and modern artwork. We had a room on the top floor with a pretty luxe bathroom, featuring a large rainforest shower and roll top bath. Free wifi, a nespresso machine and complimentary breakfast bites such as porridge, orange juice and fruit are nice touches too. As are the dental kits included in the rooms – take note other hotels!

Downstairs for dinner we tucked in to starters of pork croquettes and a beetroot and goat’s cheese salad, both of which were excellent. Being a Sunday we had to go for a roast for the main and a damn good one it was too with homemade Yorkshire puddings, free range beef and top marks for the all-important gravy. If you do find room for dessert you’re going to want to get the amazing Banoffee Pie. YUM.

Both as a hotel and as a gastro pub, The Tommyfield gets a thumbs up from us.
