The significant acts gracing the prestigious stages of Glastonbury are – as they are every year – a hot topic. The rumour mill has been in overdrive with extravagant theory’s coming from every crack and crevice, but the Eavis’ tend to keep a shroud of secrecy over the proceedings at their Somerset home.
This morning, that shroud of secrecy was finally pulled back to reveal the truth – although, not quite all of it. One final headliner is still yet to be announced. As we all already knew, Canadian indie-rock giants, Arcade Fire, will headline the Friday night. Playing before them is Micheal Eavis’ favourite band, and brand new announcement, Elbow.
The Pyramid Stage on the Sunday is due to see appearances from Dolly Parton, The Black Keyes, and then finally, Kasabian. The headliners from Leicester have seen a continuous decline in sales of both their albums and their popularity in recent years, so despite the fact that they’re well established in the British music scene, the booking has been seen by many as a controversial move.
The Saturday night headliner is still up for speculation and the Eavis’ refuse to make an official announcement until may due to “contractual reasons”. Bookies odds indicate that Metallica may be the most likely to steal the slot. That doesn’t stop people dreaming for acts such as Fleetwood Mac, Daft Punk and Led Zeppelin. In reference to the latter, Micheal Eavis claimed that “Led Zeppelin will play one day”, but with Robert Plant already at Worthy Farm to promote his solo ventures, a 2014 headline slot seems unlikely.
Other big slots at Worthy Farm this year include Jack White, Skrillex, Massive Attack, Pixies, Manic Street Preachers, Lana Del Rey, Disclosure, MGMT, Jake Bugg, Blondie, Warpaint, The Wailers, MIA, and De La Soul.
RESALE UPDATE: Tickets that include coach travel going to the festival site and back will be available Thursday 24th April from 7pm, while standard festival tickets will go back on sale Saturday 27th April at 9 am.
