Caxton Grill lives alongside St Ermin’s Hotel in St James…it’s joined right onto it like that sexy mole on Cindy Crawford’s face. The bar recently launched a new Scottish Wagyu menu.

Late afternoon mid week saw a fair few people inside and we’ll tell you for why. It’s a cosy informal set up where you can grab a comfy seat and have a natter and a bite or be propped up in their tall chairs at the bar and listen to the laid-back music and catch up and a few emails.

Phones off, menu open we went for the Wagyu burger, which went down a treat. The juicy Minced Wagyu added an extra meaty kick. Topped with the usual and two onion rings, it looks a bit of a monster but we’re sure if you put your mind to it you can take it on. We did and won.

burgerThe minute steak sandwich is also a winner, served in a fresh baguette with Dijon mustard mayo, red onion & crisp lettuce. Both came with parsley and garlic fries which are addictive to say the least. What is it with skinny fries, even when you’ve said ‘done, no more…’ you find your hand creeping back over to grab another, not that we’re complaining.

In the area? Then pop in and check it out. You might want to polish your shoes though…dont embarrass yourself.
