far as hotel locations in Venice go they don’t get much better than the Centurion Palace, situated slap bang on the Grand Canal opposite San Marco with its own private boat mooring. As we made our way up the canal via taxi-boat we neared Salute, turned to our right and spotted what we hoped was the hotel, a beautiful grand building with a balcony over the canal. And as luck would have it, it was indeed The Centurion Palace just minutes from the water taxi station.

The ground floor of the hotel is taken up with a quaint courtyard with comfy outdoor seating and a restaurant and lounge with a spacious outdoor terrace on the canal. Our room was a Double Deluxe Room located on the third floor with two blinging all golden bathrooms, a walk-in wardrobe style space, huge bed and all mod cons – this was some deluxe room alright. But the highlight had to be the outdoor terrace, the only room in the hotel with an outdoor terrace and what’s more the outdoor terrace was actually bigger than our flat at home with sun loungers, a table and chairs and views of The Basilica di Santa Maria della Salute. It was this same church that woke us each morning, with the romantic chimes of its bells that in any other city would nothing short of annoying but this is Venice where romance rules the day.

Breakfast is another romantic affair, especially if you bag one of the tables on the terrace. Go all out and have a glass on prosseco for breakfast, sit back and watch the gondulas float by – when in Venice!

Room rates start from 220 Euro for room only including VAT.
