album of the month | django django ‘marble skies’

At a festival in Chicago a couple of years ago, Dave Maclean (the band’s drummer/producer) raised his eyes skywards to marvel at the marbled clouds, and in that moment, an idea was born. He immediately made note of the words ‘Marble Skies’, which became the title of Django Django’s highly-anticipated third album.

When the band finished their previous album tour, they made their way to India with the British Council (minus Maclean who had other production projects to play with in LA) and upon their return, they began working on new material. After ten days of back-to-basics experimenting and loose jamming in the studio (with Anna Prior of Metronomy fame drumming in Maclean’s absence), the band sent hours of raw material to Dave for him to edit, evolve, and refine – ultimately shaping the final album.

The resulting release is a collection of music that refuses to be confined to a genre. It’s a vibrant, dancy and, at times, frenetic exploration into new sounds for the band. The ten-track offering is as energetic it is eclectic, guaranteed to keep listeners on their toes. Fans of the band will recognise singles Tic Tac Toe and In Your Beat, although it’s only a matter of time until other album highlights such as Surface to Air and Real Gone become familiar too…

Django Django are set to launch the album at the end of the month with two very special in-store performances and signings at Rough Trade (one in Bristol on the 24th and another in London on the 26th), with an upcoming headline tour to follow over the next few months. ‘Marble Skies’ will be released on digital, black vinyl, coloured vinyl and CD formats via January 26th on Because Music.
