Fashion is of course the first thing that comes to mind when you think of Fashion Week, but don’t forget the make-up! We had a chat with Michelle Webb AOFM Pro’s lead make up artist about what it takes to put on a catwalk show.
What prep do you do ahead of LFW?
Believe it or not, a lot of prep goes in to getting ready for fashion week: liaising back-and-forth with AOFM and Forward PR for scheduling, makeup tests with the designers to nail down their vision and with each show’s team.
Quite a lot of my time will be spent working on mood boards and inspiration with each show’s (we do several over New York Fashion Week, London Fashion Week and Milan Fashion Week) designer and stylist and I’ll need to make sure my kit is packed, stocked, up-to-date and ready for international travel.
Describe your typical day during LFW?
A typical day would be starting off in the morning for makeup tests, then running around London from show to show. There’s not much time for anything else!
What can you not live without during LFW?
I cannot live without good skincare; without that everything else is obsolete.
Tell us something we don’t know about LFW?
London Fashion Week is not only made up of the official show schedule, there are many amazing designers that show off-schedule, underground and even virtually. If you are going to London Fashion Week, make sure you wander off the beaten path and check out some of these off-schedule designers as you might find a gem.
LFW must include a lot of ups and downs, what are some of the most memorable things to happen?
Wow, I have had so many memorable things happen, but what I will never forget is sending a model down the runway in full-body glitter for Fyodor Golan’s debut fashion show for autumn/winter 2012. That turned some heads.
