This week’s LDNER definitely knows what’s hot when it comes to hair. She worked in the Aveda flagship salon as Master Director for ten years and has made sure models at London Fashion Week are catwalk ready before opening up her own place, Butchers Salon in Shoreditch, meet super stylist Susannah Jones…

Where do you live in London and what do you like about the area?

I live between seaside Margate and Columbia Road in the city. It is a fairly recent arrangement, but I think it’s the best of both worlds. I love East London because of its exciting energy and daily inspiration. All my friends live nearby and with the amount of bars and restaurants around there is never a shortage of places to hang out. In Margate I can enjoy a bit of country living with the beach right next door and it’s growing creative and artistic community makes it feel connected to my life in London too.

You worked for Aveda for ten years before setting up Butchers, why did you decide to finally go out on your own?

I loved working at Aveda, however I wanted to create something that was mine. I wanted to build my perfect environment to work in and house other creative ideas. I met Katie and we both had the same vision so we decided to go for it.

What’s the story behind the name Butchers?

The first location we looked at was originally a butchers. As we looked around we kept laughing saying “wouldn’t it be funny if we called it Butchers” as it’s a term for bad hairdressing. Then we couldn’t get it out of our heads. We even thought of the cockney expression “have a butchers” and with its East London links it could actually work. No one ever forgets the name, that’s for sure.

What colouring trends are big for this season?

Warmer tones are definitely taking over as grey and ashy stuck around for a while. It can take a while for a new trend to settle but we are definitely seeing more and more requests for golden tones and coppers.

Describe your perfect day in London.

My perfect day in London is a morning walk with my fiance, dog and good coffee, exploring the markets and beautiful East London parks following a big boozy late lunch with good friends.
