checking in: home farm glamping

Nothing beats a good weekend away, but sometimes the thought of getting on a plane or train for three hours is really not how you want to kickstart your relaxing weekend. That’s where Home Farm Glamping comes in. The glamping site is literally just a hop, skip and a tube ride away from London, located in farm land in Elstree that’s just a five minute drive away from the end of the Jubilee and Northern lines. Being so close to London we weren’t really expecting a proper countryside retreat but we were so wrong, the site felt a million miles away from the big smoke. Surrounded by 100 acres of woodland and a beautiful lake, it’s a little slice of paradise.

The real selling point is the accommodation though – we stayed in a fully insulated bell tent with a super comfy double bed, candle chandelier, good selection of books, BBQ and fire pit. Raised on a wooden decking platform, the tents stay nice and dry even if it rains…perfect for the British summertime. On arrival, you are given box full of utensils, crockery and marshmallows to toast over your campfire. It’s got everything you could possibly need for a couple of nights under the stars, and if it does rain there is a huge barn (with communal fridges) where you can take your BBQ or use the camping stoves to cook up a feast. The bathrooms were also a far cry from those grotty toilet blocks we remember from camping as kids – there are two log cabins with modern showers, toilets and fancy soaps.

It’s all the little things that make your stay feel so special, from the fresh herb garden and fully-stocked wood shed to the complimentary tea and coffee and super-friendly on-site manager Clare. Home Farm Glamping is the perfect place to recharge; we spent weekend stargazing, battling it out at ping pong, toasting marshmallows and drinking prosecco as the sun went down, and you can do it all from just jumping on the tube!
