The Lacy Nook is Stoke Newington’s latest opening and it’s another winner for the neighbourhood. Founded by two friends from Macedonia, Jana and Elena, the menu takes influence from all over the world, including some family recipes from their home country which are really interesting.
We especially loved the Beef Cevapi – a flatbread filled with mini beef patties, kajmak (a kind of milk spread), fresh sweet onions, and ajvar (a spread made from roasted peppers) – and The Lacy Nook’s signature dessert, a raspberry baklava made from a recipe passed down through Elena’s family over the years. Our other faves were the roasted miso aubergine and the spicy squid with aioli.
[URIS id=90189]The Lacy Nook’s other trump card is a beautiful hidden garden which is absolutely perfect for the sunny weather we’re finally getting, whether you just want a drink, full dinner, or a weekend brunch.
Another thing we like about The Lacy Nook is that it uses lots of small local suppliers including granola from Husk & Honey; salad from Growing Communities; Hackney Square Root Sodas; beer from Redchurch Brewery; Mission Coffee; and bread from The Dusty Knuckle, a Dalston bakery who offer training and employment to young people through their work experience scheme.
As a neighbourhood restaurant, The Lacy Nook hits the nail on the head – lovely owners, great affordable food and a homely atmosphere. We highly recommend you check it out.
