Indian Food in London has never been better. As well as Michelin starred places like Gymkhana, Trishna, and Tamarind, there’s a new breed of casual Indian restaurants such as Tandoor Chop House, Dishoom, and Kricket that are transforming how we think about Indian food. Vineet Bhatia London sits most definitely in the higher end category, set in an upmarket Chelsea townhouse just off King’s Road, with only a multi-course tasting menu on offer, both in regular and vegetarian versions.
The menu begins with some small snacks, including one of the dishes of the night, a smoked prawn served with a shot of lime soup. Moving into the main dishes, there was a slice of pan-fried foie gras with beetroot; thinly-sliced duck with a korma sauce; and glazed pork chop, amongst many others. In full tasting menu tradition, there’s also a whole selection of Indian sweets right at the end, including chai fudge and coconut crisp.
[URIS id=85206]All the dishes were well done and we certainly enjoyed them all but we thought the price was a little steep: £105 for the tasting menu or £175 with matching wines. Don’t get us wrong, we’ll happily blow half a month’s salary in one night on a meal but there are potentially better value tasting menus to consider at other high end Indian restaurants in London – at Gymkhana it’s £70; Trishna £60; and Tamarind £75.
All in all, if you’re looking for fine Indian dining in Chelsea (and don’t mind paying Chelsea prices) then VBL absolutely fits the bill.
