INTERVIEW: THE LOVELY EGGS

Billed as one of the best live acts around, The Lovely Eggs are a bundle of fuzzed out fun. We caught a moment with them whilst they prepare to freak-out the UK on their upcoming tour…

Where are you right now, and what are your plans for the day?

Sat in our house in Lancaster trying to plan a secret shindig at a mystery venue that we’re planning to take over and egg up. Most of the day will be spent wading through a collection of psychedelic lights and projectors to see if they work!

You have a pretty DIY attitude to both your music and especially touring, why did that come about?

Mainly because we don’t want any one else to have control over the band other than us. The music industry generally likes ultimate control over bands which can make them miserable. We just wanted to eliminate that part of the equation and have fun. We have worked with other labels in the past so we’re not anti working with other people, but just on our terms, which are friendship based and not on commerce.

Do you have any tips or advice for other bands looking to do a similar sort of thing?

Just go for it! Don’t let anyone tell you what you can or can’t do. Fuck the rules and get on with it.

What’s coming up for the band?

Well we’ve got our new 7” single Drug Braggin’ out on our own label Egg Records on October 28th. We’ve got a UK tour coming up starting on October 20th. We’ll be playing at The Lexington in London on Weds 26th October. We’re playing our 6th live session for Marc Riley on BBC 6 Music on Weds 19th October. And in the meantime, we’re getting all our shit together! We post all our records etc out ourselves and address the envelopes and so on so we’ve got a lot on our plate at the minute. We’ve also just got back from filming our new video for Drug Braggin’ with the video director Casey Raymond so we’re just recovering from that and organising this secret party that we’re hosting in our home town of Lancaster. Oh yeah and we’re writing a new record as well!

What have you been listening to recently?
