ZEVS AT LAZARIDES

Fight past the retail giants, angry commuters and lost tourists on Oxford Street, and you’ll be rewarded by a plethora of small, independent art galleries – all for free! Lazarides on Rathbone Place is currently dedicated to ‘The Big Oil Splash’ a solo show by French artist Zevs (aka Aguirre Schwartz). The first gallery contains paintings in bold colour with graphic shapes lampooning oil companies, accompanied by a jacuzzi installation full of viscous oil.

Armed with a pair of sunglasses and a token, the second space is hidden behind a thick black curtain displaying what initially appear to be brightly coloured monochromes…unexpectedly the token powers a sunbed and the UV radiation cleverly reveals hidden paintings! And whether you go for environmental, political or aesthetic reasons it’s certainly worth a look.
