LOTI EATS: CASITA ANDINA

casita-LOTI

Casita Andina is the newest restaurant from Martin Morales, the chef and founder of Ceviche, Ceviche Old Street, and Andina in Shoreditch. We were already a fan of Martin’s restaurants but Casita Andina feels like his best yet both in terms of design and food. The place, set in an old townhouse on Great Windmill Street in Soho, has the feel of a welcoming home and is colourfully adorned with Peruvian artworks and custom made textiles produced in the Andes. There’s also a little outdoor terrace where we sat, perfect for summer evenings.

The menu is inspired by Peruvian food found in the Andes but given a bit of London flair and beautifully presented. There are many highlights but our absolute favourites were, from the nibbles section, the avocado fritters and the pork and liver croquetas – these are must orders. From the raw bar it’s all about the trout tiradito in tiger’s milk and the watermelon and quinoa salad – one of the standout dishes of the night. The hot kitchen brings tamal stuffed with pork and salsa and beautifully tender lamb loin. Desserts are inventive too with an avocado and strawberry pot going down a treat.
