loti eats: rok islington

rok-LOTI-4

We absolutely loved the original ROK Smokehouse when it opened in Shoreditch last year, and we weren’t the only ones, as it picked up glowing reviews across the board. Now ROK is back with a slick looking new site on Upper Street, which has seen some great new openings recently including 100 Islington and Galley.

We rocked up (sorry) on opening weekend to see if they could repeat their success and we’re happy to say it’s a big YES from us. Some of our favourites from the Shoreditch menu are here two – the standout ndjua scallops and that more-ish cauliflower cheese for example. There’s plenty of new dishes too and the menus change all the time anyway so you’re nearly always guaranteed something new to try.

Definitely don’t miss one of the new sides which is nearly a dish in itself – blackened cabbage nori rice, macadenia & vasterbotten. From the starters, you can’t go wrong with the duck pate and from the mains, the pork chop with granny smith and carawaykraut is a winner. We ended with one of the best chocolate mousses we’ve ever tried, with a perfect consistency and topped off with peanut butter ice cream.

Throw in spot-on friendly service and Scandi-cool interior design and ROK Islington shaping up to be another great success for the team.
