to the North West to hang out in Manchester, a city famous for its football, music and a proper good northern time, we got to spend some time in Hotel Gotham. Not to be confused with the home where a retired Batman decided to spend the rest of his days, but a glorious bit of architecture set over seven floors, with some pretty special views of the city.

The building is in fact a former bank, built back in 1928 and has since be restored to its former glory, housing 60 rooms inside the art deco interior. Inside is dark polished woods, luxurious leather, velvet, faux fur and geometric carpets. You’ll find the decor is rich, decedent and very much nods to the money that was held inside this grand building. Our room boasted a huge bed wrapped in faux-fur, dramatic windows, an amazingly spacious bathroom done out in marble with monsoon showers, as well as endless quirks such as the homemade ‘bat’ biscuits, good tea and big mugs. If you’ve got serious cash to splash then you might be interested in the Bank Manager’s suites, huge spaces that have roll top baths within the bedroom. BLING!

The in-house restaurant Honey, where breakfast and dinner is served, is on the 6th floor and offers a modern menu. For breakfast we’d suggest going all out with the Full English whilst for dinner we were fans of the Indian Lamb. On the very top floor you’ll find Club Brass, a members club which guests can also access during their stay. The lounge sits within two vault like structures, which pave the way to a Prohibition-style speakeasy where the cocktails will keep you entertained until the wee hours. Our tip, try the Bellboy Barry’s Bramble.

Hotel Gotham is housed in one of the city’s grandest properties and is without doubt one of the best boutique hotels in Manchester. Just wipe your feet before you go in and you’ll be fine.
