We
talk to John Victor from Gengahr and get to find all about ‘The Song That…’Got me into music…
Nirvana – “Smells like teen spirit”. I was never massively into nirvana but all my friends were and it was a case of like nirvana or have no friends. My first band started out playing nirvana covers so even though I was never that keen as a teenager it was very important in getting me to play music. Weirdly got into a lot more as I got older, I thought I was meant to get less angry.
Reminds me of my favourite festival…
Regina spektor – “Poor little rich boy”. Was not expecting to see a grown woman hitting a chair with a drum stick. I was super into it. Should clarify this was at v-festival which… is not my favourite. But this is my most stand out memory of a song at a festival.
I love this year so far…
Grimes – “Art Angels” the whole album but I’ll pick Realti. Although it came out last year I’m still completely in love with it. It often boarders a little to close to late 90s Madonna but it still has enough edge to make it interesting. Realti kind of sums up everything I like about pop music.
I want played at my funeral…
My Bloody Valentine – “Sometimes”. I have no idea what the lyrics, it could be very inappropriate, I will check before I plan on dying. I just love the guitar, mood and ending of the song where it builds up constantly.
I would play in a set to impress…
Al Green – “Let’s stay together”. I’m trying to impress the ladies with this one. If I opened my mouth and that voice came out I think I would be set for life.
Always gets me up and dancing…
Taylor Swift – “Shake it off”. I like that the dance instructions are in the title of the song. Plus, sometimes you just need to shake it off. Solid song writing there.
