It’s true, we don’t like Kricket…we love it! That was obvious you may think – hey we love a good dad joke – what wasn’t quite as obvious, however, was just how much we’d freaking love Kricket. Sitting inside of Pop Brixton, the shipping container park, think Boxpark but South and more food-orientated, Kricket serves up Indian sharing plates and cocktails.
It’s casual dinning, yes you are eating in a shipping container, but you’ll be surprised at what comes out of the kitchen. We were bowled over by the bright colours, textures and flavours – think delicate Indian spicing ramped up a level. Created by Will Bowlby, who previously worked at The Cinnamon Club, the dishes are inspired by Southern India but use British ingredients and modern flare to bring them up to date.
We couldn’t fault any of the cooking but the highlight for us was the Goat Leg Rann; cooked for six hours this dish smashed it out of the park. Then there’s the Keralan fried chicken, the wood pigeon with garlic pickle, burnt grelot raita with girolles and the palate-pleasing Bhel Puri with raw mango, tamarind, sev and yogurt.
Forget the bat and ball, sit on the sidelines and plough you way through this menu.
