isn’t known for being a great place for restaurants, particularly if you’re looking for somewhere casual but good quality that won’t break the bank. Welcome then to Cambridge Street Cafe which has just opened at the Artist Residence boutique hotel located on a pretty Pimlico backstreet, offering everything from breakfast and weekend brunch to cocktails and Sunday roasts.

Like the hotel rooms upstairs the restaurant’s design has a fun boutique feel with vintage drink crates, reclaimed wooden tables and cloth covered banquette seating where we settled in one Sunday. Cocktails and wines are all on offer but we stuck with some healthy fresh smoothies before tucking into starters of tomato and creamy burratina salad and chargrilled cauliflower with pomegranate seeds. From the mains, the standout was fresh tagliatelle with a meaty lamb ragu and fresh parmesan but the Sunday roast of aged roast beef and all the trimmings also very much hit the spot.
