South isn’t known as a food hub but Abbeville Road, a short stroll from the tube, is a sweet neighbourhood street with some good independent restaurants.

We spent an evening at Craft Kitchen, the newly opened family-run joint serving up hand-crafted dishes and, you guessed it, craft beers. Making the most of a summer’s evening (read: mild temperatures, 30% chance of rain) we sat outside on their terrace, enjoying a spot of people watching and menu browsing. From the starters we ordered the Chicken Wings marinated in smokey BBQ sauce and the Lamb Kofta Kebab – don’t worry it’s not the type you’d find in Kebab Zero. Mains came in burger form: a Pulled Pork Burger smothered in Craft BBQ sauce, served in a sweet brioche bun and the Craft Burger, made from hand pressed flat iron steak, dripping in smoked applewood cheddar.

Pro mezzePro Craft Burger

We polished things off with a gooey Chocolate Fondant and Eton Mess and a couple of craft beers (though sadly they didn’t have the full selection available when we went). For decent pub style grub served alongside craft beers in Clapham, Craft Kitchen have mastered the craft.
