based psychedelic post-punk outfit Toy are not ones to be played around with. Two albums in and several massive tours down, the critic quashing five-piece played a special gig at Islington Assembly Hall on behalf of Attitude Is Everything’s Club Attitude.

With a stage-presence as magnetic as that of mates The Horrors, Toy engulfed the audience in a haze of atmospheric electronic instrumentals carved by weaving resonating guitar noise through krautrock-esque keys. Generating dynamism through their music as opposed to any other onstage action, the synth loving shoegazers remained almost static during the performance yet managed to fill the entire room with an exhilirated spirit that was hard not to latch on to. Sonically superlative with an enthralling energy, Toy’s exceptional live performance justifies their hype and then some.
