is Sunday 8th March a bit different from any other Sunday? We’d normally just go for a roast, read the papers, and recover from the week, but we’ve just got to shout about Not So Silent Movies at Electric Cinema Portobello. Its silent films (think classic comedy from Chaplin, Keaton, et al) accompanied by a house band and special guest. The first one for this new season (previous alumni include Talvin Singh OBE, Roger Eno, Jarvis Cocker, Phil Manzanera and Andy Mackay) is Ed Harcourt. Although, Ed won’t know what he’s playing to as founder (mega talented composer of films scores, national anthems and classic album arranger) Philip Sheppard (and his five year old son) pick the film the night before.

Music, mystery and probably mayhem, as it’s improvised, with the band taking cues from the audience. It’s family friendly. Tickets are out now, and it’s guaranteed to be better than a trip to a soulless multiplex.
