those of you who didn’t know Sir James Pennethorne is the 19th century English architect who designed the New Wing at Somerset House. Why are we telling you this? Well it’s because there’s a new cafe bar that has opened in the new wing of Somerset House called Pennethorne’s Cafe Bar.

The intimate joint has been kitted out to feel a little bit ‘Oo La La’ with gold table tops, dark walls and wooden floors. During the day it’s all about coffee, soups, pastries and breads but as the night falls it becomes a pretty, sexy little drinking den.

There’s a small menu of cocktails including our fave, That’s Amore made with sloe gin, campari and martini rosso, delish and under a fiver. WINNING. Then there’s the wines and craft beers as well as a bit of fizz. And, to soak up the booze, there’s a finely crafted small menu featuring things on toast – yep that does include ndjua, salads, meats, cheeses and a couple of specials.

An affordable wine bar in the heart of Somerset House with good food and decor to boot, who’d of thought it…
