you like your cocktail bars hidden away through unmarked doorways, then you’re in for a treat with Peony. Located within the already hard-to-find Opium, which is above the Dumplings Legend restaurant in Chinatown, Peony is an intimate bar space which has just opened in what was previously a store room.

The design is all very Kitschy Asian, with traditional Chinese prints and teapots on the walls – you can even choose which teapot you want to have your sharing cocktail in. As with Opium, you can also order dim sum platters (which come from Dumplings Legend downstairs) to snack on while you booze away.

The cocktail list is short but sweet with around five Peony signatures and three sharing punches. We particularly liked the Emperor’s Garden – gin, lemon, Chinese rice wine, cardamom and ginger syrup – and the Dragon Bite – El Dorado 5 rum Xilli liquor, Benedictine, lime and fresh papaya. They will, of course, make any other drink you fancy too – definitely check out the tea-smoked Negroni!
