2:54 have unveiled the video for new single ‘Blindfold’ from new album The Other I, due to be dropped later this year. Irish born sisters Colette and Hannah Thurlow have already garnered enviable success as 2:54, name taken from the bass drop in a Melvin’s song of course, and this latest release cements their place as one of the hottest up and coming alternative acts in the UK.
The sisters grew up in Bristol before relocating to London, where 2:54 is based. London features heavily in the ‘Blindfold’ video, where Colette and Hannah storm down tunnels that are reminiscent of abandoned tube pathways, all leather and angst. Colette bounds in front of city apartment blocks and epic skyscapes at the Barbican, reflecting the arty yet urban sounds of their music. Hannah shyly tucks her hair behind an ear and looks away from the camera. It’s a whole lot of beautiful contrasts: the almost ‘Valley of the Dolls’-esque sassyness of Colette with the wallflower shyness of Hannah, the harsh cityscape with what is certainly a more mellow offering than earlier singles. It’s also really catchy, with a great pop-inspired hook: “counting the days, counting the day…”
Expect only bigger and better things from 2:54. They’ve definitely had a meteoric rise so far, what with tours supporting fellow dreamy-indie-superstars The XX and Warpaint, to name but a few. This is definitely not just a blog-fuelled hype however, there is a whole lot of substance behind all their style. Stellar stuff!
