introduced you to this cool cat earlier this week and as we’re quit the inquisitive bunch we found it only natural to want to know more about what makes him tick. We dive into the stylishly eccentric world of the talented Joshua Kane…

Where in London do you live and what do you love about the area?

My home is in Islington but I pretty much live at my store ‘Joshua Kane’ on Brushfield Street, in Spitalfields. Immersing myself in my work is something I have done from a young age and I wouldn’t change it for the world. Spending my days and nights around Old Spitalfields Market is an absolute pleasure because of the wealth of characters and innovation in the surrounding areas always give me something fresh to draw inspiration from.

How does London on a whole influences your work?

London is the melting pot of creativity, you have historical value with modern innovation on every corner. Its the perfect juxtaposition of knowing the old and creating the new which is exactly how I view my tailoring and is truly reflected in my designs. Even down to the threads in each of my suits they’re woven by one of the oldest british mills with modern know how and design influence.

Where are some of your favourite places to go to get inspiration and to see great designers?

Since being at University every thursday I would travel to Old Spitalfields Market and wander around the nooks and crannies of the Vintage stalls – no suprise then that I opened shop in its doorstep! I don’t much compare or keep up with other designers and these day I’m so busy I hardly get a chance to tear myself away but when I do, I love places like the national portrait gallery.

What is AW14 looking like for Joshua Kane?

With AW14 delivered in store and regularly updated throughout the Christmas period I’m excited to get the shop ready for party season and host our first staff Christmas party. As you can tell I’m a bit of a workholic but my team are like family and we have a lot to celebrate together.

Finally, what would be your ‘perfect’ day in London?

Any other opportunity I have when I’m not working or researching you’ll find me on four wheels skateboarding around London with my friends grabbing a boost from Brooklyn Coffee on Commercial rd then its drinks at Beach Blanket Babylon before dinner at Shoreditch House… its my perfect day to relax and blow off some steam!
