opening of Tapas restaurant, Toro Gordo on King Street, has probably been the most exciting thing to happen to King Street, Hammersmith in a while. Toro Gordo (‘Fat Bull’ in Spanish) is owned by Miguel Caffarena, whom previously worked at La Bodega Negra.

In for a treat, we had chef and manager choose a selection of their favourite dishes; something a bit different rather than slip into ordering the usual. The dishes came fast, each one well presented. Our favourites included Gambas Pil Pil (sautéed prawns with garlic, chilli, white wine & parsley, Pulpo al Toro (sliced Octopus on a bed of house guacamole), Taco de Buey (Sliced Scottish sirloin) quite rare, but pretty tasty and the best of the lot, Vieiras Plancha (grilled scallops with pesto & blue potato chips).

To wash it all down we sampled the Tarima Monastrell, from the Alicante region of Spain, a beautiful velvety red wine, to complement the Tapas. And finally, to top it off, we indulged in Churros covered in cinnamon with dark chocolate dip – because sometimes the traditional tapas are the best.
