is the word du jour. The concept is simple: exercise as hard as you can for a few minutes, recover just long enough to catch your breath, and repeat. This spikes your metabolism, builds muscle quickly and burns calories for up to 24 hours afterwards. So what happens when you combine this gruelling military style punishment (er, we mean training) with reformer Pilates? Well, this is where Bootcamp Pilates steps in.

With its four London studios, leading the charge with reformer pilates, this summer saw the launch of its HIIP class. A 55-minute intense class combining exercises both on and off the reformer machine in a regimented sequence of moves, designed to target every inch of your body. And we mean, every inch.

When on the mat beside the reformer bed, our bodies were put to the test with countless sets of push-ups, lunges, squats, burpees. All whilst using varying sets of weights or plain and simple bodyweight resistance. Then just when we thought we were about to collapse, we were on to the reformer beds to work our core and glutes using a system of springs, straps and pulleys all of which worked together to provide an effective, non-impact stretching and toning workout.

We left the class feeling completely dead, though ready to hit the class again. It’s addictive. And if this all sounds a little too intense, head down to one of the studios this Bank Holiday Monday (25 August) for a FREE Reformer Pilates taster class. We guarantee, you’ll be signing up in no time.

Bootcamp Pilates have studios in Notting Hill, Richmond, Fulham and Old St and classes start from £19.
