their sixth joint on Leadenhall Street, Benito’s Hat have brought their popular Mexican Street food to the city to spice things up among the city slickers. We have to agree, who wouldn’t want to run out and grab a burrito or better still pop in for several cocktails after work (or during).

We popped along to meet some new amigo’s and found the place looking the part. Downstairs is ready for the lunch time crowds with stools at the window but enough space to get in and get out – got to get back to the desk to crunch those numbers! Upstairs is more relaxed with little booths overlooking the streets below, here you will find the President’s Bar which only appears when the sun goes down.

Food wise we cracked open the hot sauce and dipped away with our nachos.Their new evening menu is designed for sharing and split up into Antojitos, Principales, Al Lado and Basicos, which basically means you can get to try a variety of food. The antojitos sharing starter gave us more than we bargained for with potato and oregano taquitos, spinach & Monterey Jack quesadillas, chicken tinga tostadas and black bean & feta tostadas. Leaving room for more we went for the tortillas with chicken and the pork, with all the sides, salsa, guacamole and cheese along with black beans and chorizo, oh so good.

The cocktails are a must try, besides being ‘strong’…true to their Mexican roots they are damn tasty too. Try the Mojito Mexican style…DAMN! Every grain used across all the restaurants is hand-sourced from the Salinas of Mexico by, Fortunata, Executive Chef Felipe’s mum who lives in San Antonio de Texcala. It doesn’t come more authentic than that!
