on Great Titchfield Street, Scandinavian Kitchen was started by a Swede and a Dane in 2006 who were homesick for their favourite foods from back home. At the back of the shop, the grocery section sells over 600 products imported from all over Scandinavia – everything from breads and cereals to meats and cheeses. Even saltlakrids spunk…The café at the front is where the action’s really at, however, serving up sandwiches, salads, cakes, and coffee.

You can mix and match 3 items from the deli counter to create your own smörgåsbord for £5.95 which isn’t bad at all for a central London lunch. We tried mini open sandwiches (the Scandi way) of rare roasted beef with remoulade and horseradish on dark rye bread; smoked salmon with dill dressing and cucumber on crusty stone-ground bread; and a freshly made mixed salad of beetroot, coleslaw, new potato, mixed beans and coriander. We also couldn’t ignore the Swedish Love Cake – chocolate sponge with coffee and coconut icing – – boom!

If you’re searching for a Nordic food fix in London then Scandinavian Kitchen has got it sorted.
