these days often fall into two categories: old man or so-hip-it-hurts. So it’s reassuring to know that you can still enjoy a pint in a decent boozer without being surrounded by creepy alcoholics (excluding your mates obviously). Allow us to introduce The Devonshire Arms.

The South Kensington venue has recently been refreshed with a new menu and an updated list of craft ale and beer, and apparently we’re not the only ones who’ve noticed. We visited on a Friday afternoon to find the place packed with locals soaking up the sun in the newly extended garden and settling in for the evening in the bar and dining areas.

The pub has retained its authentic feel via the reclaimed furniture and pre-1900 prints on the wall, and with the sunlight streaming through the large windows, the atmosphere was warm and inviting.

The menu features all the traditional favs like pie and mash and fish finger sandwiches but with posh touches (we are in South Ken after all) We tried the roast chicken with red wine gravy and the salmon fishcakes, which came with an apple & celeriac slaw that was so good we should have ordered a second helping.

Along with the standard menu, the pub have introduced Saturday brunch which includes a two-man ‘Breakfast of Champions’ and sounds like a challenge to us! Watch this space…
