TFor their seventh venue, The Fable, Drake & Morgan have gone ALL OUT with a three-floor extravaganza of a place in Holborn with everything from a purpose-built mixology area and al fresco terrace to a gift shop and florist by Quintessentially. Oh and they also do food and booze – and plenty of it – with some original cocktails and a menu of seasonal British classics.
Inspired by the fairy tales and fables of Aesop, the multi-floored space is pretty impressive with Tom Dixon light fittings, House of Hackney wallpaper (a personal fave of ours) and green foliage everywhere you look. If you’re going with a group we’d recommend booking ‘Aesop’s Table’ (see what they did there!) a cosy booth lined with a cascading wall of old books.
We kicked things off with a ‘goldfish in a bag, a cocktail made from little bird gin, vodka and rhubarb bitters and actually served in a plastic bag…It’s been a while since we’ve drank from a bag, we can tell you. From the starters, crispy tempura fried prawn ‘lollipops’ were excellent as were the lobster and parmesan croquettes. On the mains you can go as dirty or as healthy as you fancy with a range of burgers and meaty dishes sitting alongside salads, ‘luxe sandwiches and chips and katsu curry sauce (HELLO). We went half and half with a decent fish pie, swimming in creamy sauce and topped with cheesy mash and a healthy hot smoked salmon salad with spinach.
Good food and booze in fun surroundings – if you’ve been looking for something a little different then The Fable is just the ticket.
