LOTI EATS | BERNERS TAVERN

Berners Tavern is the latest of Jason Atherton’s restaurants to open in the city, but it won’t be the last for a while! Located in the Edition Hotel, the restaurant is like stepping into the dining room of the Titanic (or what we’d imagine it to be), everyone is pretty glamorous, even the table of 70 year olds next to us didn’t have a grey hair out of place.

We started with the Dill or No Dill, a pretty little cocktail made with Tanqueray gin, lemon, smashed cucumber, elderflower cordial, fresh dill and smoked salt. Food wise Orkney scallop ceviche, avocado, radish, baby gem, jalapeno and lime ice was the perfect combination of flavours and textures, arranged like a piece of art whilst Egg, Ham and Peas, made up of a deep fried duck egg, mushy peas and crispy ham felt a little bit naughty.

The winner of the mains was definitely the super soft roast cornish sea bass in a creamy sauce with brown shrimp, samphire, kale and wholegrain mustard. Dessert shouldn’t be skipped either, rhubarb and custard was perfectly sweet and tart whilst warm cinnamon donut killed it. And if you want to get even naughtier go for the Cereal Killer cocktail with coco pops milk.

For a bit of glam without the fuss of the five-star Berners Tavern is where it’s at.
